Dear Dancing Friends, I always feel Autumn as such a time of change in the year, especially here in NZ where we have the dual impulses of growth and dying in any one season. We have a maple tree in our garden and throughout the day leaves make their graceful descent to the earth. I […]

At first self-conscious, I dance until my sweat becomes a river, that takes me to my soul. Eyes closed, I disappear into the waves, and all that’s left is rhythm. Laughter ripples through my body. Joy arises, past walls that were there just moments before. Moving until my sweat erodes those walls that surround my heart. Beyond those walls, is life, real life.
by Inspirational Village, April 2011 Dance is a spiritual channel, an opening of metaphysical and sensuous doorways. Every dancer knows her goal: to get to that point where the body no longer stands in the way but becomes the instrument of the soul’s expression, the body, and psyche working together. The feelings of joy, hope, […]

Many changes for me too as I ride the waves of my first pregnancy, re-finding the dance as my body grows, surrendering to new needs of rest and nourishment and the joy of connecting with the new life within.

I feel very supported by the practice of the 5Rhythms, not only the physical movement of it but also the deep philosophy which is grounded within it. The value of trusting our body’s innate wisdom, the allowing our emotions to move through us, the surrender to life’s currents, the holding any experience with lightness and recognising the mystery at the centre of it all.

Dear friends...happy spring! The kowhai are blazing golden across gardens and forest, fruit trees are in delicate blossom and all seems to have taken on a delicious sweetness here on Waiheke. However the wind and intermittant heavy rains are reminding that the transition towards new growth is not always comfortable.

RESISTANCE TO CHANGE
Just like in our dance or any practice, we often have to brave those distinctly uncomfortable moments of boredom, of feeling we are stuck, or of feeling annoyed with the practice, music or teacher. I had this recently in my yoga practice when
